BNB Chain is building a second blockchain, and CZ has personally confirmed the design: many chains, one coin. The new L1 will run alongside BSC, use BNB for gas, staking, and governance, and skip a separate token entirely. Public testnet lands late 2026, mainnet early 2027. For anyone holding BNB, that removes the dilution worry that usually comes with a new chain.

What exactly is being built

The plan, spelled out in BNB Chain's official documentation and amplified by CZ on X, is not an upgrade to BSC. It is a separate L1 that runs in parallel. BSC keeps handling general contracts and DeFi. The new chain targets latency-sensitive work: high-speed matching, on-chain order books, perpetuals, real-time payments, and AI agents.

The headlining number is 200 milliseconds per block, with pre-confirmations pushed to users in about 20 milliseconds via sub-blocks. Ordering and execution are separated so consensus doesn't wait for contract computation. A native two-way bridge connects the two chains. No new token. BNB remains the asset for gas, staking, and governance across both.

Why BSC doesn't just get an upgrade

BSC has been running for years, and its historical state is heavy. Node disk and I/O pressure keep climbing. Getting a big speed jump without sacrificing security on the existing chain is hard. So the team chose a dedicated lane instead of rebuilding the highway while traffic keeps moving.

That decision carries a trade-off: two chains mean more surface area to secure and more coordination. The native bridge is the critical piece. If it works cleanly, users get speed without fragmenting liquidity. If it doesn't, the whole 'one coin' pitch gets tested.

The details most people skipped

Three things in the docs deserve attention. First, native account abstraction: Passkey signatures (think face or fingerprint on your phone), gas sponsorship, and up to 64 operations batched into one transaction. No third-party service required. That lowers the on-ramp for normal users.

Second, an optional privacy pool using zk-SNARKs to hide sender, receiver, and amount. Large traders have been asking for this. Third, a fee rule change: base fee is fixed at zero, and pricing comes entirely from priority fees. You're charged on your declared gas limit, unused gas is not refunded. High-frequency bots will need to estimate gas more precisely.

What it means for BNB

The token math is simple: no new coin means no fresh supply diluting BNB's role. Every gas payment, every staking position, every governance vote on the new chain still runs through BNB. That is pure incremental utility for the existing asset.

The competitive math is harder. The new L1 is aimed at Solana, Sui, Aptos, and Hyperliquid, all of which already have live on-chain perp and order-book businesses. BNB Chain is not first here. It is betting that a fast lane connected to its existing user base and liquidity can win share anyway.

The news tone and what to watch

Six BNB stories over the past day averaged a News Score of 76, with all six bullish and none bearish. The coverage is clearly reading the L1 plan as a positive for BNB, mainly because it adds utility without adding supply.

The next real signal is the public testnet late this year: which protocols show up first, and whether a top-tier perp project commits. Until then, the market is trading the design, not the live product.

Questions

Will the new BNB Chain L1 have its own token?

No. BNB Chain's documentation and CZ both say the new L1 uses BNB for gas, staking, and governance. No separate token is being issued.

When does the new L1 launch?

A public testnet is planned for late 2026, with mainnet in early 2027. An internal multi-validator devnet is already running.

How does the new L1 connect to BSC?

Through a native two-way bridge. The two chains run in parallel: BSC keeps general contracts and DeFi, the new L1 handles latency-sensitive use cases.
